Are startup Companies the new Goldiggers?

28 Dec

I ve Googled the world Startup. 582.000.000 results came.

Don’t get me wrong.

I love a good Startup Success Story as the guy next door. But do Startup businesses, are as good as they seem? The optimistic aspect say YES. The pessimistic says NO WAY.

I am not a media expert, a social media expert. Not even a fail-preneur. I am just a graphic Designer. A guy who looks at things in a distant way. I am a member of some startup Companies, one way or another. I am also watching the how to, to many of them.

My conclusion, is very simple. The answer is not YES, or NO. The answer is that the Startup business, is very good for the training of the spirit of the people of the new world of business.

In a world that nothing is stable and safe, transaction in means, knowledge, is the answer. And the +value that would add a revenue in the near future. Not in the present, but in the very  near future.

It’s the end of the world as we know it?

The end is near?  The end of what?

In Greece after being unemployed for 2 years, the “end” is a relative concept.

Thank god, being a designer, gives me the ability to freelance jobs, and with the help of my wife, survive the hell.

But the end is not just near. The end is here. The end of  security, the end of “being one of the Europeans”. This was just a fake dream.

Now, we must overcome all the hard stuff, and became again the Greeks, we once were.

All we have to do is get out of the comfort of our “safe” lifes. Safe, is not safe anymore. It’s the end of the world, as we know it, and you know what? I Just feel fine…

Typesetting in 1977

CompuWriters, Uniscans, and Typositors: Typesetting in 1977.

It is sobering to recall all the machinery we needed to set type in the BC-era (Before Computers). Well, I take that back. This was a computer—a Compugraphic, to be exact. This, along with the IBM Magnetic Tape machines, was the state of the art in typesetting via computer back in the late ’60s and ’70s. But it wasn’t digital. The output was photographic. Look at all the chemicals necessary to get a result. Then look at the hardware. With Compugraphic, you could get away with a small area or you might need an entire room for the upscale version.

I worked with the smaller CompuWriter II, but my dream was to get the Uniscan. The former ranged in price from $5,00o to $12,000—the higher the price the better the justification. The latter was $22,000. Both were text-only. Headliners were separate, or you’d have to own a Typositor.

Next time you complain about your iMac or laptop, think of what you missed (if you were born after 1970).

Barak Obama: Illustration with news elements

6 Nov

  • Barak Obama is the present president of the US, and a very characteristic figure. I Desided to to do a portrait of him based in a photo, with type from newspapers, as a collage medium
  • That was the original Photo. Although it was a clear one, it was’nt a great image.
  • That was the outcome of my Illustration.  A Baraka Obama, news influencer, and a media man 🙂
